Liturgy of The Hours:
The Liturgy of the Hours, or the Divine Office, is the official set of daily prayers prescribed by the Catholic Church which can be prayed by all members of the Church. The Liturgy of the Hours consists of psalms supplemented by scripture readings and prayers. Together with the Mass, the Liturgy of Hours constitutes the official public prayer life of the Church.
The morning prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours is recited on Wednesday at 9.00am at Holy Spirit Church before the commencement of Mass.
The Rosary:
The Rosary is to help keep in memory certain principal events, or Mysteries, in the history of our salvation and to thank and praise God for them. There are 20 Mysteries reflected upon in the Rosary and these are divided into the Five Joyful Mysteries, the Five Luminous Mysteries, the Five Sorrowful Mysteries and the Five Glorious Mysteries.
The Rosary is prayed after the 9am Saturday morning Mass at Holy Spirit Church.
Also, the Rosary is prayed in people's homes during the week. Please refer to the Bulletin for details.
Eucharistic Adoration:
Eucharistic Adoration is prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. As Pope John Paul II said: Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament is a great treasure of the Catholic Faith ... it nourishes social love and gives us opportunity for adoration, thanksgiving, reparation and supplication.
Eucharistic Adoration occurs after the 11am Mass Friday at Holy Spirit Church.
On the First Friday of the month until 3 o'clock and then every other Friday until 12noon.
Chaplet of Divine Mercy:
The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is a Catholic devotion based on the visions of St Mary Faustina of Kowalska (1905-1938), known as the Apostle of Mercy. In her diary the chaplet's prayers have a 3-fold purpose focus: To obtain mercy, to trust in Jesus' mercy, and to show mercy to others.
The Divine Mercy Prayer Group meet Fridays at Holy Spirit Church, 3pm.
